Children's Ministry Overview
Essex Alliance is a great place for families to grow together in faith in Jesus Christ. Our team of dedicated volunteers and paid staff work year round to provide fun, creative and intentional ministries to help kids learn about God's love for them, and to help parents learn how to fulfill their roles as the spiritual leaders of their children.
Why all the orange colors in our programs? It helps remind us of what we are here to do. We want to encourage, empower and equip families to grow together spiritually. Orange is a unique: it is a color, a fruit, and a flavor. There is no word in the English language that rhymes with it. And it comes from the blending of two other colors. Red represents what parents can do for their kids, and yellow what the church can do. But mix the two together – and you get a fusion of orange! Something far better than either color (or parents and the church) can do on our own!
Our ministries have three main categories:
- Sunday Morning Ministries for kids
- Midweek Ministries for moms, kids, and families
- Special events and classes
We strive for our ministries to be fun, creative and safe. You can read online about our Safe Place Guidelines. To find out about the fun and creative part, you'll just have to come and see for yourself!
Sunday Morning Ministries
Our 2014-2015 Ministry year kicks off September 7th.
Each Sunday morning we offer age appropriate ministries for kids during the regular Sunday services.
Birth through Age 3
Old Stage Campus Downstairs rooms 200 to 203
We have fully staffed and equipped nursery areas available during the 9:00, 10:15 and 11:30 Sunday morning worship services to provide loving care for infants and toddlers. Our numbered calling system alerts parents if they are needed to assist with their child's special needs. If a parent is needed, the bracelet number for that child will be displayed on the call boxes in the main service.
The active 2 and 3 year old children in Sprouts have a brief program during the morning that teaches them (at their age level and attention span!) the same songs and stories that the older preschool kids hear in lil'Fusion.
Age 3 through Pre-Kindergarten

What has tremendous energy, a huge imagination, and a limited attention span? Preschoolers! lil'Fusion is our weekly Sunday morning ministry dedicated to this fun age group. We use creative teaching methods employing large and small motor skills, storytelling, crafts, and snacks to teach kids the foundational stories and people of the Bible. At lil'Fusion we focus each week on one of three truths each preschooler should know:
During the school year, lil'Fusion is available at the 9:00 and 10:15 services. Be sure to check out our at home resources for lil'Fusion so you can keep the fun and discussion happening at home.
We use a curriculum for our nursery and preschool called First Look. Watch this short video to get an idea of the strategy and focus of the curriculum.

This innovative ministry uses creativity as a springboard to teach how God's truth can be applied to a kid's everyday life. All of the kids are together for a large group time that uses a changing combination of multi-media, drama and live object lessons that present the Bible story and lesson. The kids then break up into smaller group based upon grades so that they can do age appropriate “tweaks” to the lesson so kids can apply it to their lives.
Each month, kidFusion focuses a different Biblical character trait and virtue. Families are provided resources on that virtue to keep the conversation going at home during the week. kidFusion also reinforces three truths each week:
kidFusion uses a curriculum called Basics252. Watch this video to get a view of the strategy for our program:
Mid Week Ministries
We currently have one regular mid-week ministries to offer. It is called MOPS and is for Mothers of Preschoolers. Our team is working on offering later this year a mid week program for families. Stay tuned for details!
Mother of Preschoolers (MOPS)
Twice per month during the school year. Offered on Tuesday morning and Tuesday evening.
MOPS gives moms the chance to meet, have fun, and share some time with other mothers in the same stage of parenting. MOPS is an open community for women anytime between being pregnant through their children going into Kindergarten... not just when your kids are in preschool.
During the morning groups, while the moms are together upstairs their children are being cared for downstairs. For more information, visit our MOPS webpage.
Special Events and Classes
We love to have fun and do different things all year long. Our website has “ads” on the right side of the page that show you some of the upcoming special events. If you are interested in one, click on the ad to get more information. The majority of our events are free. A few of them you'll need to sign up for in advance. You can also check out our Google calendar for upcoming events.
Some of our events include: movie special showings, VeggieTales nights, family fun nights, event nights for specific ages of kids, parenting classes and much more! We have some nights that are specifically for the whole family, called our Family Adventure Series.
Several times a year, our church celebrates faith decisions kids, teen and adults have made at our baptism services. During these services we also dedicate younger children. These terms may be foreign to some folks, so we have a page that explains the differences between baptism and dedication.
Each summer we also have a special time set aside called Summer Kids Week. This past summer, we had 300 kids come for the week! Our next Summer Kids Week will be July 13-17, 2015. Visit our dedicated website for details and to register.
