Going beyond caring into action

Jesus came to earth to be Immanuel, God with us.

We have the opportunity to bring Jesus to those who need him. Not just with words, but with action and caring by meeting their needs.

The poor in the Bible are those whose basic human needs are not being met - food insecurity, no shelter, no protection, marginalized and oppressed.

Helping someone along the way...

Ideas when you are approached for help:
  • Blessing bags
    • Personal hygiene items (soap, comb, washcloth, tooth brush & paste, deodorant, lotion)
    • Small pack of Kleenex (tissues)
    • Band aids
    • New socks
    • Mittens & stocking cap
    • Granola bars
    • Gift certificate to McDonalds
    • A small tarp
    • Tuna fish (pull top or the soft bag style)
    • Peanut Butter
    • Soup (pull top)
    • Crackers
    • Bottle of water
    • Mints / chewing gum
  • Grocery gift certificates
  • Walmart gift certificate
  • CCTA Bus ride pass
  • Information on the nearest shelter or food shelf
    • ...Offer to take them there!
  • Ask them what they need, go to a store and buy it, and then bring it back to them
    • ... or take them there, help them shop, and purchase it for them!
Many of these ideas take preparation ahead of time... so follow the Spirit and get ready.  Then watch for the opportunity.
