Child Dedication Preparation

Welcome to the Parenting Adventure!

Child Dedication is a chance for you to come before God and publicly thank Him for your little one, as well as to ask Him for wisdom, strength and discernment for the road ahead.  While the Dedication service itself is fairly short, it is our hope that it starts something in your family that will have life long meaning and significance. To prepare for Child Dedication, we ask that you listen to three short talks online and complete the brief homework.  This is an important first step in the process because we want to inspire you to invest in the things that will matter the most to your child’s future. We want to help you get off to a great start as you parent your child.

Next, you'll attend a Dedication class.  Bring questions about the homework and talks, about the Dedication service, about parenting and about our ministries and how we can partner with you.  Director of Early Childhood Ministries, Michelle Turner, will be excited to answer what she can, share her own parenting experience, and pray with you.

The third step is to celebrate at our Dedication service.  We are planning a meaningful and memorable celebration for you and your family.   You will be the greatest influence in your child’s life. As your church, we want to be your biggest fan and trusted guide. We look forward to celebrating this special day with you. You will learn the specific details concerning the Dedication service at the Dedication class. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Michelle at

Be sure to bookmark this page so that you can come back and do the homework if you are not able to finish it now!

Dedication Preparation Homework

As you listen to the three Parenting Talks that we’ve provided, we would like for you to do a little homework! Nothing too tough, we promise.

First listen to Parenting Talk #1 (duration 15:26) and then complete the following:

Homework Assignment #1: On the provided Homework Card, write a description of the kind of person you hope your child will become over the next 18 years. (There are two copies of this card on the page, one for you and one for your spouse to fill out.  Or you can fill one out together). Every year on their birthday, pull out the card. This exercise will give you a chance to evaluate how you’re doing as you lead your child spiritually and to remember the importance of your child’s relationship with their heavenly Father.  The parenting talk says you'll read from this card during the Dedication service.  Don't worry - you actually will not need to read it.  If you feel comfortable, however, the Pastor might share something from your card in the service.

Listen to Parenting Talk #2 (duration 6:18) and then complete the following:

Homework Assignment #2: On the provided Homework Card, write down two things that you are going to DO to invest in yourself and the supportive and significant relationships in your life. Maybe you are going to get a babysitter once or twice a month. Maybe your baby goes to bed early so that you have couple or personal time at the end of every day. Maybe you’re going to go for a walk every night after dinner and enjoy God’s creation. These kinds of practical decisions can make a huge impact on your relationships over the long haul. Decide right now what two things you’re going to do and write them down.

Not only is it important to invest in your significant relationships with those who surround you, but you must also invest in your relationship with your heavenly Father. Perhaps you are going to join a small group. Maybe you are going to commit to quiet time three times a week. Make your decision on two things you are going to do to continue growing in your relationship with your heavenly Father and write them down.

Listen to Parenting Talk #3 (duration 7:30) and then complete the following:

Attend the Dedication Class.  The parenting talk says you need to RSVP for a "Parenting Orientation" - you don't need to worry about this as you already have registered for the class!

Just before we start the class, we will be taking a picture of your family.  Bring all of your kids with you to get this picture. Then we will give you time to get your kids checked into the nursery, lil'Fusion or kidFusion before we start the class.

We are excited about being partners with you on this journey!  See you at the Dedication class.
